She began her acting career on television in late 1990s and appeared in numerous films such as The Woods and Blue Car Murder by Numbers Blood and Chocolate. Bruckner's career began at the age of 11. The actress appeared in a couple of dramas on TV and also in the daytime soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful which aired in 1999. At the age of 15 Bruckner had her first leading part in the independent film Blue Car (2002) in which she was a school student in an affair with her teacher played by David Strathairn. Roger Ebert said that Bruckner performed the role with conviction. Bruckner was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for "Best female leading actress" for this role. She was raised with two brothers and a sister. Hungarian was her mother tongue and she rehearsed it often in order to stay fluent. Bruckner who is a Hollywood California native born to an Hungarian as well as a Russian father who had divorced from their mother at some point in the past as well, was raised by her German paternal grandparent. Her parents met in Hungary and immigrated into the U.S. in 1984 through refugees in Italy. Three siblings are hers with two sisters as well as one brother.
